Wedding Flowers and Your Budget

Wedding Flowers and Your Budget

What should I budget for wedding flowers?

It’s one of those questions that we hear often in the floral industry – how much should I budget for my wedding flowers?

There’s no one clear cut answer, but about 10% of your total budget seems to be a good starting point. Some couples spend more, some couples spend less and there are a few reasons for that:

  • Your wedding flowers will likely be more if you have a large wedding party. Bridesmaids bouquets generally cost about half of the bride’s bouquet, and with a large wedding party that can eat up a large chunk of your budget pretty quickly!
  • If you really, really want a specific flower, you can expect to go over that 10% number (peonies, I’m looking at you!). Flowers like peonies, garden roses and lily of the valley are significantly more expensive than other stems, but we excel at working with brides to find ways to use them to their best effect within their budget. We’re also pretty great at suggesting substitutions that give the same look and feel at a fraction of the cost.
  • Seasonality of the flowers affects price as well (aka: don’t get married at Valentine’s Day). Using flowers when they’re in season in a great way to make your budget, whatever it is, go further. Those peonies are going to be a better price during the short time of Spring that they’re in season.
  • Are you the DIY sort? Another way to make that flower budget go further is to do some or all of the design yourself, and we can help you figure out exactly what to DIY and what to leave to the professionals. As a retail florist *and* wholesaler, we can help you figure out exactly what you need to order, order it for you and even have space available for rent to put it all together!
